Why I like to do the kind of Photography that I do
Although my interest in photography had it's start during my teen years, it has continued to hold my interest through the years and grown to be the artistic passion in my life. My interest in the art has evolved mainly around the candid "Street Photography" aspect of photography. I have always felt that "Street Photography" is one of the purest forms of photography. In the sense that most photographs are created in a fraction of a second, so are "Street Photographs". The photograph captures, in a fraction of a second, a moment of life, an expression or an emotion that can never, ever be recreated again. I hope to capture this essence in my photographs.
"Street Photography", or "Candid Portraiture", as some refer to it, can be either exhilarating or depressing. I believe that Street photography is one of the most challenging forms of photography. Unless you want to use hidden cameras, or shoot from the hip, thus sacrificing your control over the frame, you must overcome your natural inhibition about taking photographs of strangers without asking their permission. It's also technically challenging as there are no second chances in street photography, and often hardly time to get the camera to your eye, never mind focus and expose. If you miss the shot, there's no going back! But "Street Photography" can also be extremely rewarding and, even, somewhat addictive. It's the feeling you get when you're out on a shoot, and for once, you're 'in the zone', shooting and moving about, without fear of confrontation, not trying to be inconspicuous but simply doing what you do best. You see an opportunity, moving towards it, juggling the visual elements until you press the shutter. You think you have it... and then hardly daring to even look at the image as you view it for the first time... and as you do, you say to yourself... "Wow, what a SUPER image!!"
...that's my feeling of exhilaration.
I hope you enjoy my work!
